Hair is the hardest part for me to draw. When I draw hair it looks different from the rest of the drawing for some reason. It never flows together. TT_TT

I'm interested in the part about hairstyles expressing personalities. Can you give some examples?

A girl with messy hair may have a wild personality, or a lazy one. Neat, well kept hair may be someone responsible, someone serious... Braids, she may be the studious type.

Of course it's not just hair, you need to combine facial features, accessories, colors and so on...

Alright.

When you say 'smooth' do you mean a long, straight and even line (not wobbly), or do you mean that the edge of the lines you draw are jagged/pixellated?

For the first one, if you use SAI, you could set the stabilizer to a higher setting like 15, S-3 etc. It allows you more time for doing the actual stroke so it's easier to make a smooth one.

For the second one it is often an issue with the brush or the file-format you're using, in SAI try setting the quality to 3 or 4.

With firealpaca it is 'Correction' and 'anti-aliasing' settings. I don't really know much about other programs. But I bet they probably have similiar settings somewhere too.

What is Manga Studio like? I've only used SAI and a little photoshop.

If you like. It's interesting to know about the different programs.

Perhaps I may get a copy of it at some point. (But probably not for a while.)

This is most likely caused by the fact that they are blkank faces showing no emotion, this is normally attributed to heartless killers. And thus the feeling you get.

I just saw your comment and that nobody replied. I use paint tool sai. It's way better for outlining in my opinion. You can set the brush to have a "delay" so it's not so fast when you gotta outline ^^

Is there any trick on drawing the 'fringe' that is along the hairline? I've seen people do some random lines where the hairline should be and then fill in the rest of the details. That's what I'm having trouble with. How do I draw the fringe so that it looks more 'natural' and not like inverted spikes/sharp teeth
